how to sew a tote bag with lining?

Nowadays, people always bring a tote bag in their bag. Maybe a fold-able polyester shopper could help at anytime they need to use. Maybe a thin cotton tote bag.

Some will take a bag on left, and on right side also hang a tote bag with filled stuffs.

Even young generation only bring a tote bag, which could pack all books they need bring for school, or pack daily used stuffs they need.

 

From the bag you have, you can see it’s very simple. Only 1 piece folded by length, inner stitched on 2 sides, on top edge attached 2 pieces long handle for shoulder. Right? And some body with 2 pieces of material, 1 for front panel and 1 for back panel, then stitched around 3 sides.

A small tips for you, 1pc bag the loading capacity will be better than 2pcs as there are stitching on bottom edges. All stitching will leave holes on the fabric, so the strength is not as well as the woven fabric. So if you are careful about this, then we recommend choose the bag with 1pc.

 

Now we back to introduce the production to you to help better understand how we make this bag. Actually it’s not such simple as above mentioned. After order confirmed for production, process as below

  1. Purchase the fabric based on approved sample, or follow the clear order instruction, eg. 6oz 100% cotton in natural color. Pls NOTE, we will require the fabric in rolls which will decrease the wrinkle caused by inappropriate packing or store. Also this will help us achieve better printing quality. And no need for iron after bag finish.                                                                                                                         
  2. Then factory will draw the plate based on our bag size, then upload to the cutting machine. And this can be finished with semi-auto cutting machine.                                                                         
  3. Now we come to printing, each piece will placed on the printing platform. This silkscreen printing could achieve 8 solid color or CMYK printing. And the platform glass with heat, could adjust the temperature based on different fabric to help dry the printing ink faster.

          

        4.After we get printed sheets, will forwarder to our stitching workers.

          

          

Tips. for cotton canvas fabric, it’s woven by warp and weft and have thread come out around edges. So remember to add lock stitching for fabric edges. Otherwise the thread keep pull off from the bag which will finally broken.

5.After finish stitching, will pass to our internal inspection team. They will check each bag one by one, take out poor quality bags. And remark the position need rework. Finally pack the well goods into carton, ready for ship.

For more premium bag, always have lining inside to make the bag looks great both inside and out side.

And the process is we need do same step 1&2 for lining fabric.Normally will arrange 2 fabric together.

The stitching process is little difference to the bag without lining. The stitching on 2 sides are same, only the top edge stitching is diffrent.

1 layer fabric bag, there will be 3cm top hem,folded inside of the bag.

With lining, 2 layers fabric bag we have 2 way to finish

Option 1, after turnover the semi-finish lining bag, then stitch it directly under the bag top hem part. Then the bag inside and outside looks neat.

Option 2, after turnover the bag, we fold 1cm of top edge then put the bag with lining 100% match. The 1cm folded position face to face, then we start stitch from 0.5cm to the top edge, allover the top edge. Also do not forget to insert the handle between 2 layers.

Then we follow step 5 to finish our production.
